Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris

Yves Saint Laurent was born in Algeria in 1936 and moved to Paris as a teenager to work for Christian Dior. After the two designers clashed, he launched his own label in 1966.

5 Avenue Marceau was the location of Saint Laurent’s Parisian atelier and office for the next 30 years. Since 2004, it has been the site of the Fondation Pierre Bergé - Yves Saint Laurent, a non-profit organization dedicated to conserving the designer’s work and legacy, where Saint Laurent’s archives have been carefully preserved in museum-like conditions.

The historic building now hosts the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris. The space has been transformed into the style of Saint Laurent’s original studio, transporting visitors back to the beginnings of the world-famous fashion house. Showcasing an unprecedented career retrospective until September 2018, it is the first museum of its size in Paris devoted to one of the great fashion designers of the 20th Century.

Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech

While Yves Saint Laurent’s atelier was based in Paris, his soul belonged in Marrakech, the city he claimed taught him color, draping and caftans. Housed in a sweeping 13,000 square-foot space – a low-slung, sandstone building inspired by Moroccan homes and Saint Laurent’s aesthetic – the museum holds thousands of pieces, each hand selected by his life and business partner, Pierre Bergé, who sadly passed away on 8th September, 2017.

Yves Saint Laurent first traveled to Marrakech with Bergé in 1966. They were so taken by the city that by the time they left, they had already begun buying a house. During that trip, they also discovered a beautiful garden called Jardin Majorelle, originally created in the 1930s by French painter Jacques Majorelle. The couple eventually purchased the property and moved into the villa on its land. When Yves Saint Laurent passed away in 2008, his ashes were scattered over the rose garden. Today, Jardin Majorelle is open to the public, showcasing the beautiful gardens as well as the couple’s collection of Berber art – an essential stop during your stay in Marrakech.
