Air Charter Service’s Chairman and founder, Chris Leach, has been honoured for his life’s work in aviation at the Cargo Airline of the Year Awards by winning the Lifetime Achievement Award. Leach was recognised at the gala ball held in London’s Royal Lancaster Hotel after being voted for by a panel of industry experts. The son of a pilot and born in a nissen hut at what was later to be known as London Stansted Airport; Chris Leach always had aviation in his blood. Starting off his career in the industry as a loadmaster with Saturn Airways (later to become Transamerica Airways) in the 1970s , he later moved to freight forwarder Savino del Bene before founding Air Charter Service in his basement in 1990. The company has since enjoyed exponential growth and now employs more than 280 charter professionals over 16 global offices. In 2012 ACS arranged more than 6,500 charter contracts and had an annual revenue in excess of $400 million. A more detailed overview of his career can be found on the Air Charter Service blog at www.aircharterservice.com/blog.
