It’s origins go back to before World War II, when Hollywood producer Leland Hayward and a pilot called John H. Connelly founded Southwest Airways with funding from Hollywood legends, Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, and Henry Fonda, amongst others.Originally named Thunderbird Field III, it was also used as a British Flying Training School.
