Merrill Field is a public-use general aviation airport located one mile east of downtown Anchorage in the U.S. state of Alaska. It was the Anchorage's only airport until 1951, when the introduction of ever larger and faster commercial aircraft required that an airfield with longer and heavier runways be built. The facility covers 436 acres and has three runways in service, made from either gravel or asphalt and all being listed as being in good condition. It is a very busy airport with an average of 346 flights per day and and 844 aircraft based there at any time. It offers all the major services such as refueling and minor airframe repairs.
