The Cooper Hewitt National Design Awards honor the designers that excel in enhancing the daily quality of life for individuals around the world. The awards gala, held at the Cooper Hewitt on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, is the highlight of National Design Week, which runs from 15th to 23rd October.
The 2016 award winners are a “who’s who” of the top names in the industry. In attendance will be Marlon Blackwell, a renowned modernist architect famous for his clean contemporary designs. Bruce Mau, the recipient of the top Design Mind award, is the visionary behind Massive Change Network. The Lifetime Achievement Award went to Moshe Safdie, who continues to inspire generations of designers.
If you’re traveling with children in tow, the very special Family Design Workshop warrants a longer stay. The program allows children ages seven to 12 the opportunity to work with National Design Award winners and Cooper Hewitt team members on an interactive project geared to hone their design skills. The event is first-come, first-served, and takes place on 19th and 21st October at 4:00pm.
