We’re counting down the days to the biggest Sunday on the American sports calendar, as the New England Patriots prepare to go head-to-head with the Los Angeles Rams for the first time in 17 years on February 3, 2019.

The last time the Rams and the Patriots clashed in the Super Bowl was back in 2002, when the heavily favored Rams went down 17-20 in the final minutes. This marked their final Super Bowl during their time in St Louis, while young replacement quarterback Tom Brady helped the Patriots to their first-ever league championship. This year’s clash is shaping up to be a replay of the Super Bowl XVIII. Now aged 41, Brady is the sole player from that competition who remains on the roster for Super Bowl LIII, as the Patriots hope to reclaim the title they relinquished to the Philadelphia Eagles in Minneapolis in 2018.

The last time these two teams met in the Super Bowl, it was in a packed Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans and the halftime show was a three-song set by U2 that included a moving tribute to the victims of 9/11. This year, the action moves to Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, where Gloria Knight has signed up to belt out the national anthem and the halftime stage belongs to Maroon 5, Outkast’s Big Boi and Travis Scott.

It’s the Patriots’ 11th (and third consecutive) Super Bowl and a win will see them draw level with the Pittsburgh Steelers’ record six championship titles. They’re odds-on favorites, but the Rams are counting on a throwback for their comeback and will turn out for Super Bowl LIII wearing the yellow-and-blue jerseys in which they won their last Super Bowl in 1999.
