Located at the very tip of Mexico’s Baja Peninsula, Los Cabos is an area famed for its near-perfect year-round weather and beautiful beaches. Cabo San Lucas, with its glamorous resorts, ever-growing artisanal food scene, and extensive activities, is the most popular spot in Los Cabos.

Far from being a tourist trap, an increasing number of luxury brands and boutique hotels are venturing into Cabo San Lucas, and it’s evolved into a captivating Mexican paradise with an exceptionally high standard of service.

In our luxury travel guide to Cabo San Lucas & Los Cabos, we pick out our favorite luxury hotels, the top high-end eateries, and the best way to get there via luxury private jet charter.

Best time to visit

With some of the best beach weather in the world, Los Cabos is a year-round destination. When you choose to visit depends on just how hot you want it to be, and the level of socialization you’re after.

The high season runs from December through April, so these are the busiest months. August, September, and October are known for their scorching temperatures, so these months are best left to the true heat seekers.

The shoulder months of May and November are attractive options for those looking for comfortable Cabos San Lucas weather and quieter experiences before the crowds arrive.

Getting there

A charter flight with Air Charter Service (ACS) offers unparalleled levels of luxury, privacy, and flexibility. ACS uses two airports in Los Cabos: San Jose del Cabo International Airport (SJD) and Cabo San Lucas International Airport (CSL).

San Jose del Cabo Airport is 8 miles from San Jose del Cabo and a short 23-mile drive to Cabo San Lucas. Cabo San Lucas Airport is around 25 miles from San Jose del Cabo and just over four miles from Cabo San Lucas.

Top luxury hotels in Cabo San Lucas & Los Cabos

One & Only Palmilla

The epitome of a luxury experience in Mexico, the One & Only Palmilla has long been a popular luxury hotel in Los Cabos. Constantly ranked as one of the top resorts in the country, it has two swimming pools, 13 private villas, and a 27-hole golf course. There are 173 luxury rooms, and guests can choose between room views of either the Pacific Ocean or the Sea of Cortez. Two beaches, a world-class spa, tennis courts, a variety of restaurants, and tequila tasting are on offer here.

Scuba diving, deep sea fishing, and luxury shopping are within just a few minutes of the hotel, and Cabo San Lucas town is just 20 minutes away.

Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos

It doesn’t get more private than the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos. The hotel is built into the side of Pedregal Mountain and has its own private beach. The only way to access the hotel is through the 1,000-foot-long private tunnel.

All 96 rooms have ocean views and terraces, some with private plunge pools. Beachfront casitas offer premium and private luxury, giving guests their own roped-off section of the beach, while the Estrella Suites have outdoor fire pits perfect for sunrise and sunset experiences. The Waldorf Astoria Spa draws on traditional Mexican Folk Healing, and there’s a range of exquisite world-class restaurants and bars on-site; guests rarely have to eat at the same place twice.

Four Seasons Resort Los Cabos at Costa Palmas

Located on the quieter, more secluded East Cape on the Sea of Cortez, the Four Seasons blends seamlessly with its surroundings. The two-mile private beach is ideal for swimming, which isn’t available at some of the other more rocky beaches.

Each of the 141 rooms is light-filled and has a private terrace with ocean views. The premium offerings are the luxury beach villas, which come in three-, four-, and five-bedroom options, each with its own private swimming pool. Several swimming pools, a fitness center, a gym, and a world-class spa are just a few of the amenities that guests can expect, along with seven different restaurants.

Las Ventanas al Paraíso, a Rosewood Resort

Found on a prime piece of beach paradise between San Jose Del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas, Las Ventanas al Paraíso, a Rosewood Resort, has an exquisite beachfront setting overlooking the Sea of Cortez. The hotel has warm, earthy tones with pops of vibrant color throughout, and there are several accommodation options. Guests can choose between a range of breathtaking suites and villas, some of which have Jacuzzis, private pools, and rooftop terraces. Impressively, every suite has a personal 24-hour butler service.

The most luxurious option is the Ty Warner Mansion, a two-bedroom, 28,000-square-foot mansion with an infinity pool on the beachfront. Designed by renowned architect Jorge Torres and with interiors by Robert Couturier, it’s the ultimate luxury beach hideaway.

The renowned Four Elements Spa, one of the best spas in the area, is bound to help you relax. Eight swimming pools and six different culinary experiences are available for guests’ dining pleasure.

Top restaurants in Cabo San Lucas & Los Cabos

Sur Beach House

Sur Beach House has been designed to make its guests feel at home — as if it were their beach house. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, it’s not unusual for diners to spend all day here. Located at the heart of one of the area’s most swimmable beaches, it’s more than a restaurant; it offers boats to rent, stand-up paddle-board lessons, and guided tours to Cabo’s iconic Arch nearby.

The restaurant serves Baja-inspired cuisine influenced by international flavors, with an emphasis on fresh, locally sourced seafood. There are fantastic craft beer and wine options, along with seasonal handcrafted cocktails, such as the passion fruit habanero margarita.

There’s no better place in Cabo to sit with your feet in the sand and enjoy delicious delights like grilled octopus with tahini, fresh Baja oysters, the famous seafood platter, and the ceviche bar.

Comal

Located on the Sea of Cortez side of Los Cabos, Comal is the signature restaurant of Chileno Bay, an Auberge Resort. Chef Mucharraz leads the show. This exciting chef learned how to cook traditional dishes in his mother’s kitchen at a young age and trained under the famous Thomas Keller at the French Laundry in California. His style offers innovative takes on regional flavors and traditional dishes, all set against the dramatic backdrop of the crashing waves.

The contemporary indoor-outdoor space is spread across three levels. Expect to see dishes like braised short rib with mole, vegetarian doraditas "a la talla" made with hibiscus flower, and fresh ceviche and crudo.

Cielomar

Cielomar is a fantastic restaurant on the Viceroy Hotel's roof. It offers spectacular panoramic views of the beach and is the ideal spot to watch the sunset over the ocean. Neutrals and whites contrast with polished woods in this beach-chic establishment, where the seating choices range from an intimate bar to couches with individual firepits and large dining room tables.

The menu has been designed to share in the form of family-style platters and leans toward local, Mexican-inspired dishes. Think charred corn ravioli with clams in a spicy tomato mint sauce and beef tongue gnocchi. Simple wood-fired pizzas are also on offer for when your taste buds need some familiar flavors. The restaurant is well known for producing hand-crafted cocktails that are as beautiful as they are delicious.

Flora Farms

Sitting on 25 acres of fertile Mexican farmland, Flora Farms is an organic, working farm in the foothills of the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains. It’s a must-see destination for visitors to Los Cabos, with its own cooking classes, art classes, farm spas, and shops. Its restaurant also has an impeccable reputation.

The main restaurant area has a farm bar, shop, and grocery store where visitors can buy freshly picked farm produce. The kitchen at Flora’s Field Kitchen uses ingredients that have been freshly harvested from the garden or produced at the owner’s nearby 150-acre ranch. The menu changes according to seasonality. However, you can always rely on the classic wood-fired pizzas to be served at Mama’s Pizzeria.

Acre

Just down the road from Flora Farms, Acre is the famed, cutting-edge signature restaurant of Acre Baja Resort. Situated among the luxury treehouse accommodations, the restaurant specializes in farm-to-table fare and is a heady combination of cosmopolitan and convivial. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the food is refined. The innovative cocktail program has won a number of awards, and drinks use farm-fresh produce.

The menu is seasonal, but highlights include grilled octopus, butternut squash tortellini, and half-roasted organic chicken with rainbow carrots. Your cocktail of choice should be the Perla De La Baja, a mix of mezcal and reposado tequila, pineapple, lime, and passion fruit.
