Social distancing on a private jet charter vs a commercial airline during COVID-19

Leading aircraft charter experts, Air Charter Service reveals passengers will encounter approximately eight people when flying by private jet, compared to up to 1,045 on a commercial airline journey.

As countries are starting to re-open their borders and travel restrictions are beginning to ease following destinations’ lockdowns, health and hygiene have never been more important to travellers. Research conducted by Air Charter Service has revealed that passengers will encounter an estimated eight people when travelling by private jet, from leaving the house to arriving at their chosen destination, compared to up to 1,045 on a commercial flight journey.*

Private jets offer the most hygienic flight experience in terms of social distancing because passengers can avoid the queues and crowds at busy airports and onboard, therefore minimising human contact outside of their chosen ‘bubble’ of travel companions. In comparison, travellers flying via a commercial airline, through a busy airport can encounter up to 600 people walking through the terminal alone and often between 100 and 400 on the aircraft itself.

Every member of the ACS team has received training on measures relating to hygienic travel so they can select aircraft carefully based on each passenger’s individual situation. For example, larger aircraft with cabin separation are often selected for larger groups where passengers are not in the same ‘bubble’ as others on board.

To optimise the hygienic private jet passenger experience end-to-end, ACS has been working with its private jet airline partners to ensure that, where possible, the following guidelines are adhered to:

    • Aircraft to provide sufficient hand sanitiser and masks for all passengers
    • Removal of all magazines, newspapers, and cushions from the cabin (these can be arranged on request)
    • Bathroom to be equipped with hot running water and soap, checked prior to each sector
    • Aircraft to be sanitised with products recommended to kill COVID-19 virus, with attention paid to high contact areas, including handrails, seats, seat belts, tables, window blinds, personal AV/lighting controls
    • Airline crews must adhere to and respect social distancing requirements for example, offering no handshakes to passengers on arrival and asking for approval before handling any baggage or documentation

Justin Bowman, Air Charter Service’s CEO comments: “While the COVID-19 pandemic has presented the world with new challenges during this time of uncertainty, private jet travel can provide holidaymakers with the comfort and peace of mind of knowing that they are travelling in the most hygienic way possible. Ensuring passengers’ health and wellbeing is our main concern. This is why we have been working with our operator partners to identify a number of measures that can be implemented to maximise protection and limit the transmission of COVID-19. We are confident that the airlines we choose to work with, plus the airport staff and aircraft crew of our operator partners, are following these guidelines wherever possible.”
